BEST INDIAN FISHERIES SCIENTIST –2018 to 2021
Background
In view of the rapid globalization process, it is felt that Indian Fisheries Professionals should be encouraged to publish their work in globally recognized and well-read journals. Although, many fisheries professionals in India are actively engaged in research, their results are published in journals having low impact factor and/or are not widely read journals. Publishing in journals, which are accessible to the international community, would improve visibility and competitiveness. In view of this, PFGF has introduced this award. The selection of the person for this award will be largely based on the Impact Factor (IF) of the scientific papers published during the preceding year i.e. 2017 to 2020.
Objectives
1. To encourage Fisheries Professionals to publish their research results in high impact journals
2. To recognize and support scientifically active Fisheries professionals
Process of selection
1. This award is open to all fisheries researchers (excluding students) irrespective of whether they are from SAU/NAAS/ICAR or whether they have acquired a bachelors degree in fisheries or not.
2. Research papers that have been published between January to December, of the preceding notified years alone would be considered for the computation of impact factor (IF). Reviews and book chapters will not be considered for computing the marks.
3. All the fisheries researchers are requested to send the list of publications for the year along with softcopies of their research papers to the Chairman of the selection committee (pfgfawards@gmail.com).
4. The latest available impact factor (Thomson Reuters and later acquired by other companies), would be used as the selection criterion for the best fisheries scientist of the year. In case of multi-authored publications, the first author and the corresponding author will be given full marks, whereas the co-authors would get 50% of the marks.
5. For those Indian and foreign journals where no impact score is available, but peer review is commonly adopted by such journals, lowest available impact factor will be used for computation purpose. Papers published in peer reviewed proceedings of seminar / workshops containing original data may also be considered for computation using the lowest impact score. However, the main objective of this award being to encourage scientists to publish in more visible journals, then selection committee will assign the score appropriately only when it is necessary like the tie between two scientists.
6. In the final selection, when there is a tie between the two or more, the final selection will be based on not only the impact score, but also on the impact of research results on science and livelihoods of people dependent on fisheries.
7. The decision of the committee is final in all matters, but the process adopted will be kept open for verification.
8. Research paper soft copies submitted by Scientists will be archived in the PFGF office in Mumbai and will become part of the library collection being built by PFGF. By applying for the award, the applicants are giving consent to archive their research papers.
