Dr. V. J Jhingran Award |
Dr. V. G. Jhingran served as Director of the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore and contributed immensely for the development of the freshwater Aquaculture in the country. The leadership provided by him helped in developing technologies for the wise use of the inland fisheries resources and the development of Aquaculture Technology. India’s most significant accomplishment as the second largest producer of fish from Aquaculture is largely attributed to the support he provided in developing the technology for fish culture. The Government of India presented him Padma Bhushan award in recognition of the yeoman service rendered by him for Fisheries development in India. The comprehensive book written by him “Fish and Fisheries of India” is considered as an excellent documentation of Indian fisheries research and development. He worked in various organizations including FAO and ADB. He was also associated with Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Fisheries colleges as an Advisor. |
